Cover For Risks Standard Policies Miss

Fire, motor and health policies protect the obvious risks, but many real losses fall between them: cash stolen on the way to the bank, an employee who quietly diverts funds, a shattered shopfront, a stolen necklace, a damaged painting. Specialty insurance covers these gaps. MILES Insurance Brokers identifies which specialist covers your business or family actually needs, finds insurers with appetite for the risk, and checks values and wordings so the policy responds when it should.

Why Specialty Cover Matters

Cash And Money Risks

Protects cash in safes, tills and transit against robbery, burglary and hold-up, a frequent gap for retailers.

Employee Dishonesty

Fidelity guarantee cover reimburses direct financial loss caused by fraud or embezzlement by your own employees.

Valuables And Collections

All-risk cover for jewellery, watches and fine art at agreed values, at home, in lockers or on loan.

Family And Personal Security

Kidnap, ransom and extortion cover with specialist crisis response for business owners and high-profile families.

Everyday Specialist Items

Plate glass, pets and bicycles have their own policies, often cheaper and clearer than stretching a general policy.

Gaps Found Early

We review your existing policies to see which specialty risks are already covered and which are not.

What is specialty insurance?

Specialty insurance is the group of policies written for particular risks that standard fire, property, motor and health policies either exclude or cover only thinly. Examples include cash in transit, employee fraud, plate glass, jewellery, fine art, kidnap and ransom, and cover for pets and bicycles.

Most of these are offered by Indian general insurers as “miscellaneous” or specialist products under IRDAI-approved wordings. Some, like money and fidelity guarantee policies, are long-established and widely available. Others, like kidnap and ransom or fine art cover, are placed with fewer insurers and need careful underwriting information.

Why these risks need their own policy

A standard fire policy does not cover theft of cash from a cashier. A burglary policy generally covers forced entry, not an employee who manipulates accounts over two years. A householder’s policy may cap jewellery at a low limit or exclude it outside the home. Pet illness is not covered by any human health plan. Each specialty policy exists because the risk behaves differently and has to be assessed differently. Buying the right one is usually far cheaper than the loss it protects against.

Our specialty covers

The table below lists each specialty page on our site and who it suits best.

Cover Best for
Money insurance (cash in safe and transit) Retailers, petrol pumps, restaurants and any business handling cash daily
Fidelity guarantee insurance Employers whose staff handle cash, stock, payments or accounts
Plate glass insurance Showrooms, shops, offices and hotels with large glass fronts or partitions
Jewellery and valuables all risk insurance Families with jewellery, watches and valuables at home, in lockers or while travelling
Fine art insurance Collectors, galleries and companies with art on walls or on loan
Kidnap, ransom and extortion insurance Business owners, senior executives and staff working in higher-risk regions
Insurance for HNIs and family offices Wealthy families wanting one coordinated programme for homes, art, liability and travel
Pet insurance Dog and cat owners who want vet bills and surgery costs covered
Bicycle (pedal cycle) insurance Cyclists with high-value road, mountain or electric-assist bicycles

How these policies are priced

Specialty covers are underwritten on the specific facts of the risk. For money insurance, insurers look at cash limits, safe quality and transit arrangements. For fidelity cover, they look at internal controls and audit practice. For jewellery and art, valuation reports and storage matter most. For kidnap and ransom, the profile of the insured people and where they travel drive the price. Because appetite differs so much between insurers, comparing several markets is especially worthwhile here.

How MILES helps

  • We map your gaps: we read your existing property, liability and household policies and point out which specialty risks are uninsured.
  • We check values and wordings: agreed values for art and jewellery, cash limits for money cover, and discovery periods for fidelity cover.
  • We approach the right insurers: with placements across 16+ insurers, we know which markets write unusual risks and on what terms.
  • We support claims: police reports, valuation evidence and loss statements are prepared properly with help from our claims team.

MILES has protected 2,200+ clients, and many specialty covers are added after a broader review of a business or family’s insurance. You can see the full range on our insurance solutions page.

What we need to get started

  1. A short description of what you want to protect and why.
  2. Approximate values, with valuation reports or bills where available.
  3. Where the items or cash are kept and what security is in place.
  4. Copies of your current policies, so we avoid duplicate cover.
  5. Details of any past losses or claims.

Cover, exclusions and premiums depend on the insurer’s policy wording and underwriting. MILES Insurance Brokers Pvt. Ltd. is an IRDAI-licensed direct broker (Life & General, Reg. No. 954); the insurance is issued by the insurer. Insurance is the subject matter of solicitation.
