From monsoon flood cover for a Kurla godown to marine cover for containers moving through JNPT, we compare 16+ insurers, check the wording and help you through every claim.

What does an insurance broker in Mumbai do?

An insurance broker in Mumbai finds, compares and places insurance on your behalf, then helps you claim. MILES Insurance Brokers does this from Andheri East for companies, traders, housing societies and families across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.

We hold IRDAI Certificate of Registration No. 954 as a direct broker for life and general insurance. We have operated since 2015 and place business with 16+ insurers.

How a broker differs from an agent

An agent is tied to an insurer and offers that company’s products. A broker is licensed to act for the buyer and can take your risk to the whole market. The differences show up at three points: the choice you are offered, the advice you receive and the help you get at claim time.

Question Agent Broker
Whose interest comes first? The appointing insurer The client
How many insurers? One or a few Any insurer in the market
Role in a claim Limited Active: documents, surveyor meetings, follow-up

Brokerage is paid by insurers within IRDAI limits, so our advice does not normally carry an extra charge on your premium.

Mumbai risks we plan for

Monsoon flooding

Every monsoon brings waterlogging to low-lying areas such as Kurla, Sion, Andheri subway and parts of the western suburbs. Losses are usually to ground-floor shops, basement stock, electrical panels and parked vehicles. A property policy should include flood, inundation and storm cover; stock should be declared by location and floor; and cars should carry engine protection. We review these points before June, not after the first heavy spell.

Dense commercial property

Offices in BKC, Lower Parel, Nariman Point and Andheri sit in multi-tenant towers where one fire can affect many occupiers. Tenants need contents and electronic equipment cover, and owners need building cover at the right reinstatement value. Many leases also require public liability at a stated limit.

Warehouses in Bhiwandi

Bhiwandi is the region’s main warehousing hub. Goods are often stored in large sheds with high stacking and changing stock levels. We usually recommend fire cover on a declaration or floater basis, burglary cover and a clear agreement on who insures goods held for third parties.

SMEs in Andheri and MIDC

Small manufacturers, printers, jewellery units and IT firms in MIDC Andheri, Marol and SEEPZ need affordable package cover: fire under Bharat Sookshma or Bharat Laghu, burglary, money in transit, machinery breakdown and employees’ compensation. Our guide to business insurance for SMEs explains where to start.

Co-operative housing societies and redevelopment

Many Mumbai buildings are older co-operative housing societies, and a large number are being redeveloped. Societies need building cover at current reconstruction cost, not the original purchase price, plus lift breakdown and common-area liability. During redevelopment, the developer’s contractors’ all risk and third-party cover should be checked, because members’ interests depend on it until possession.

Marine cargo through JNPT

Importers and exporters moving containers through Jawaharlal Nehru Port need marine cargo cover that matches their Incoterms and runs until goods reach the warehouse. Regular shippers often save time and cost with a marine open cover instead of single-transit policies.

Why a local broker

  • Site knowledge: we can see your premises, check stacking, basements and fire protection, and describe the risk properly to insurers.
  • Presence at claims: when a loss happens we can meet the surveyor, help record damage and keep the paperwork moving.
  • Seasonal planning: renewals and stock declarations are reviewed with the monsoon in mind.
  • One team, two cities: businesses with sites in Mumbai and the NCR can be serviced together with our Gurugram office.
