The Claims Process

From Intimation To Outcome

A claim moves through a few clear stages. Step through them to see where MILES supports you and where the insurer's assessment takes over.

Step 1 of 5

Claim Intimation

Notify MILES or the relevant insurer as soon as possible after an incident, in accordance with the terms and conditions of your policy.

  • Share the basic details of the incident
  • Provide your policy information
  • Tell us when and where the incident occurred

FAQ

Claims, Made Clear.

Answers to common questions about navigating an insurance claim.

What should I do immediately after an incident?

Note down what happened, preserve any relevant evidence, and get in touch with MILES or your insurer as soon as reasonably possible, in line with your policy terms.

How do I intimate a claim?

Contact MILES with your policy details and a summary of the incident. We can help you notify the relevant insurer and take the next steps.

What documents may I need for a claim?

This depends on the nature of the claim, but commonly includes a copy of your insurance policy, a detailed explanation of the cause of loss, and any relevant photographs or videos. Depending on the claim, insurers may also request a witness statement, weather data for weather-related losses, purchase invoices or replacement-value quotations for damaged items, a completed claim form with supporting invoices, KYC documents (such as GST certificate, PAN, Aadhar and a cancelled cheque), and records such as an Annual Maintenance Contract or fixed asset register. MILES can help you understand exactly what applies to your claim.

How does MILES assist during the claims process?

MILES can help with claim intimation, documentation, coordination and communication with the insurer, and follow-up throughout the process.

Who decides whether a claim is approved?

The insurer assesses the claim based on the policy terms, conditions, exclusions and supporting information and determines the applicable claim outcome.

How long does a claim take to settle?

Claim timelines vary depending on the nature and complexity of the claim, the documentation required and the insurer's assessment process. As a general guide, once all required documents have been submitted and verified by the surveyor, claims are typically settled within about 15 days, though this can vary depending on the insurer and the specifics of the claim. MILES can assist with communication and follow-up throughout.

What happens if the insurer asks for additional documents?

This is a normal part of the assessment process. MILES can help you understand what's being requested and coordinate getting it to the insurer.

Should I send documents directly to the surveyor?

Once a surveyor is appointed, they will usually share a list of documents required for your claim. We recommend keeping MILES informed and copied before sending any documents directly to the surveyor, so we can help review, track and coordinate what's being shared on your behalf.

What if I disagree with a claim decision?

Speak with your MILES relationship team so the decision and available next steps can be understood. Formal grievance or escalation processes may also be available depending on the insurer and applicable regulations.
